Lotte Duty Free (CEO: Lee Kap) revealed on October 15 that they opened a luxury jewelry brand Tiffany & Co. store, in Kansai International Airport, Japan.

The store, located at the first departures terminal at Kansai International Airport, is an individual boutique-style shop measuring about 90 m². It opened anew on the 14th through remodeling. It is the only Tiffany duty-free shop in Kansai, and the store will operate until September 2023.

This store is the first among Tiffany duty-free shops in the country to have modern design concepts applied after Tiffany & Co. was purchased by LVMH in January this year. The interior and exterior resemble those of the Tiffany & Co. flagship store located on 5th Street in New York, and the shop features artwork by Jean Schlumberger, a major player in the modern jewel design scene and a representative designer at Tiffany& Co. Lotte Duty Free will be selling a broad range of jewelry, watches, and accessories that represent the Tiffany & Co. brand, including the new Tiffany T1 collection.

In order to target travelers in the East Asia region, Lotte Duty Free signed a contract for duty-free business rights in Kansai International Airport and opened a branch in September the same year. This has led to a remarkable achievement of expanding into the Japanese duty-free market for the first time for any Korean duty-free company. Starting with Tory Burch in December 2019, Lotte Duty free opened a Loewe shop in January this year, a Bulgari shop in June, and Bottega Veneta, Gucci, and Tiffany shops this month. There are now a total of six brands represented in the boutique-style shops in Kansai International Airport.

The number of people that depart Japan from Kansai International Airport number around 12 million each year (as of 2019), making it the second largest international airport in Japan after Narita International Airport. These consist of 4 million Japanese, 3.25 million Chinese, and 1.5 million Koreans each year.

Lee Jong-hwan, the head of the Lotte Duty Free Global Business HQ, mentioned, “Lotte Duty Free operates the largest number of luxury brand shops in Kansai International Airport. We expect to be able to solidify our presence here in the Kansai region through the opening of the Tiffany & Co. shop.”

As part of its efforts to prepare for the global tourism demand that will soon be restored, Lotte Duty Free has recently resumed its overseas expansion project that had been suspended due to COVID-19. The company has been preparing in particular to open downtown stores in Da Nang and Sydney by constantly studying the local vaccination status and traveler trends and adjusting the time of opening the stores.

Lotte Duty Free currently operates 11 stores in six countries.
